Preparing For The Worst: Helpful Stuff

Plan for the WORST - medical supplies are dwindling (not to mention toilet paper & food)...trade with other countries has stopped...  believe it or not, THIS is World War 3 - only the enemy is viral.

This is what I have been up to:
-1/2 glass of Tonic Water (with Quinine) every morning and evening - there is word this works prophylactically to reduce symptoms of Cornoavirus, and improve survival. DO NOT plan to take things containing acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs - at the moment this is seen to cause problems)

- When coming in from outside - remove outer clothes at door, wash hands immediately, and SHOWER - quick and efficiently - don't fuckin' waste water either!!! ...then go back and sanitize the door handle. (I am lucky to have a little antechamber at my front door - nothing comes past the 2nd door without careful actions.)

-Cut up old T-shirts into wide strips to tie over your face as masks - not as good as N95, but better than nothing...we are running out of masks, so start making your own.
Remember: Single-use - put into a "Dirty Bag" with the outside folded so it's inside (Consider the outside contaminated) disinfect in a 1% bleach solution before washing in hot water for reuse.
N95 masks are SINGLE USE ONLY - find re-useable solutions and save the disposable masks for the health care industry, not just a trip outside.

-Add a few drops of Dettol to your shampoo bottle - my coworkers tell me Coronavirus can hang in the air for 3 HOURS. Grocery stores and transit are the worst places to be, even if you avoid each other. Walks outside are an ILLUSION of safety - even a fair wind is just blowing shit around, not away from you.

-Wipe down all store purchases/deliveries with a vinegar and water solution before bringing into your kitchen. VERY IMPORTANT if you are caring for or living with older family members - keep your vulnerable loved ones safe, even if you don't care about yourself.

-USE SOAP / BLEACH  etc. SPARINGLY - you only need a LITTLE BIT.
Bleach - 1 part mixed with 100 parts water is all that is necessary (1% solution)
Soap - More is NOT going to work better - just use the size of a large pea and RUB LOTS.

-If you have a grow tent, start planting NOW - make sure you include things like millet, flax, and chia - you can grow the seeds they sell for cooking (mine have sprouted). Grow continuous harvest veggies like lettuce, spinach, chives, herbs, keeping in mind that things that produce fruits and vegetables often require pollen from another plant. (Some self-pollinate, like peppers, but you have to shake the flowers a bit to get it done) You can pollinate using a paintbrush every day (Kinky plant sex!) - use the same brush always, and store in a Ziploc bag - get as much different pollins onto your brush over time as you can, and you will get better yield. (I have also seen cucumber flowers tied together to produce better.) ***If you don't have a grow tent, save some millet, flax, chia, etc. from your food to plant just outside your door when it warms up. (Millet is a high-density source of grain that can be ground in a coffee grinder into flower.) Herbs can be frozen if they produce too much at one time - they are still veggies.

-Ladies - conserve hygiene products - sit on the toilet a little longer to "Drip", and consider helping your menstrual process along in a quick, purposeful shower before replacing your hygiene product. You will use less, as well as a bit less toilet paper. CONSERVE.

-Food Conservation - eat until half-full and put a couple huge glasses of water on top to create the "full feeling". Don't just sit and snack all day - thinking about conserving food keeps your mind on your cupboards, and does cause unnecessary snacking.

-Oyster mushrooms - superfood that grows on used coffee grounds - I have several bags of fungus, but I still need to master the art of getting the mushrooms sprouting nicely. (I would share, but I don't know how I would get my fungus to people safely...still thinking about that.)

USE ALL SUPPLIES & FOOD SPARINGLY - there WILL BE SHORTAGES which WILL CREATE HIGH COSTS.

ASSUME THE WORST WILL HAPPEN AND TAKE ACTION NOW TO CHANGE YOUR HABITS - THIS WILL NOT BE OVER IN A FEW MONTHS, EVEN IF WE GET A VACCINE RIGHT NOW.

***wILL POST MORE IDEAS AS I GET THEM

{Warmest wishes and best of luck to Linda Carr (My camera bunny, Dick Splinters's mom) who is in the hospital for emergency surgery. She is a sweet and wonderful woman, and I send her and her daughters and family my warmest wishes of love.}
